Soft Phones are mobile applications that let you make calls from your cell phone through internet and if you are not using any then you are probably losing some money that can be saved easily. The tariff for local and national calls doesn’t pinch many but sometimes there is just so much to talk that going for a VoIP app will make more “money sense.” Going for VoIP for making international calls is always wise. Thanks to the popularity of skype, we now have scores of VoIP applications. Making VoIP apps is however against the guidelines of Apple if it is created on EDGE network. Following are some of the soft phones compatible with an iPhone.

TruPhone is the most popular Soft Phone in UK and it is the only VoIP application available on Apple iTunes App Store. You do get a $1 free credit initially which you may use to call anywhere in the world. After that, you will have to buy credits and the tariff is quite reasonable.Truphone is also available on Nokia handsets.

Fring is one VoIP app I hear about the most because it is always in the status message of one of my buddy. Fring is not just a VoIP because it gives you the freedom to stay in touch with your online friends on different networks like MSN,Yahoo, Gtalk, AIM and Skype as well. You actually use Skype when you make calls with tis but it is on the list for its wide networking capabilities. I will prefer an app which can bring all the networking in one place for me rather than opening up different apps for different networks.

Jajah claims to save upto 98% on your international telephone calls. It gives you five minutes of free calling on signing up. Amongst all the soft phones it seems the most promising. The Jajah web app looks pretty similar to your iPhone dialing pad but connects to your caller through the internet.

iCall has recently made an iPhone compatible VoIP which is in beta stage right now. The company has a Skype like application you can install on your PC and make calls. The iPhone version allows you to make calls over WiFi and the fact that it’s integrated with iPhone address book makes it even more tempting. You can also forward your calls on your cell number to iCall and save minutes.

Talkety doesn’t dole out software to make or recieve calls. It allows you to do the same through your web browser on your iPhone (safari) itself. All you have to do is key in your number and the number of person with whom you want to talk and Talkety connects you both.

Sipgate allows you to make and receive calls using any SIP based VoIP service over WiFi. You can use any SIP service provider and make international calls at very cheaper rates. You do get 111 free minutes when you sign up on this one.

Ringfree has created an iPhone application called RF Dialer which is the first iPhone app that allows SIP URI calls and free IP based calls to Voice over IM services like Skype, GTalk, MSN messenger and Yahoo messenger.

Raketu is another service which works like Jajah aand Talkety which means you don’t have to install any software to use it and it establishes a connection between your number and the other phone number.

Nice to see a blog post about some of the voip companies out there. Jaxtr is a related service, although you don’t need to download any software to make low-cost international calls with it. Feel free to touch base with me if you’re interested in more info.
