Published in Affiliate Marketing by Aditi Tuteja

How can you identify a good affiliate program? Through experimentation! Yes this is exact answer that you get when you ask a seasoned affiliate marketeer! No wonder it is true, however there is plenty more to it. It is not rocket science nor a single guru mantra that lets you make big bucks!

Here are few important things I have recently learned while, I was at affiliate summit east 2009 at NYC.

Just signing up and placing an affiliate program on your website doesn’t assure you income, some people earn millions each month through their affiliate sales, while majority rarely see significant payout.

Landing Page Type
I have seen that landing pages that Include a personal recommendation or a testimonial along with the affiliate link do well. This boosts the sales Use the product yourself, then tell visitors in your own words what you liked about it. While some people prefer to just fake it, it still works for them!

Affiliate Marketing Program Placement
Next most important step is to place your affiliate program appropriately, it is by experimentation that you will realize which is your most promising program, usually placing it near the top of your opening web page it the best possible location. Visitors tend to click links near the top of the page first. People should understand what it is that your program is selling, so make it compelling so that they will click more if they find it beneficial.

Find the right Affiliate program
Most people choose affiliate programs that match the topics and purpose of your site. They find products and services that will interest the kinds of prospects who are drawn to your site’s content. However, building websites on the basis of popular Affiliate programs is another way of getting it right! People make “Made for Affiliate” websites and promote them so they can make better sales. However, it is still required to have suitable and relevant content. I would personally keep the quality first, as users come to your site for the good information that you can provide. Use affiliate programs justĀ  to add extra value for your visitors. Sites that are just affiliate based may do well in short term, but they are likely to get de-listed from search engines..

To increase sales, get more visitors
Promote your site well, bring appropriate traffic on your website, build keyword authority and get your pages ranked, so that more and more people come to your site. Sales on the Internet is mostly a numbers game. Only one to ten percent of any visitors end up buying.

Tracking
There are plenty of tools that you can use to identify your conversions and traffic. You must use them to discover the keywords that work for you, the landing pages that converted well, what factors other such information is helpful for better utilizing your website real estate.
