Firefox 3 tweaks

Published in Firefox by sushaantu

The Firefox 3 is definitely faster than its previous versions and it has definitely got more meat to take on internet explorer. Firefox 3 is probably the best bet to make the cyber world a better place by eradicating Internet Eplorer :)

There are some tweaks and hacks which you can perform to make the most of your own browser.

Secret Messages:

There is nothing secret about URI scheme but not many people know about it. We have a new verse from “The Book of Mozilla” in the latest firefox. You can see it by typing about:mozilla in the address bar.

The contribution of Robots is being appreciated (what does that mean) and you can find a robot in a hidden easter egg. You will have to type about:robots to see the firefox 3 mascot.

The awesome bar:

Firefox has received lot of praise and little criticism for its new improved address bar which the company has dubbed as “awesome bar”. It will automatically suggest you the site from the bookmarks or history when you type something. If by any chance you don’t like it then you can use this add-on to disable it.

Make old extensions work in Firefox 3:

If your favorite add-on has not been updated with firefox 3 yet then you can do a minor tweak to possibly make it work again. You can disable extension compatibility checks by typing in about:config in the address bar and turning the entry extensions.checkCompatibility off by (False) by double clicking on it.

If your Broadband sucks:

You can manipulate the settings in firefox to speed up your browsing experience. Click about:config and then do the following changes

network.http.pipelining (double click on it to change the default setting from False to True)
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests (change it to 8 from 30)
network.http.max-connections (change it to 96 from 30)
network.http.max-connections-per-server (change the default entry to 32 from 15)
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server (change it to 8 from 6)
network.http.pipelining.ssl (turn it true by double clicking on it)
network.http.proxy.pipelining (turn it true by double clicking)

You can restore all your default settings by going at about:config and clicking on “Restore Defaults.”
