First Indian to get an iPhone

Published in Apple iPhone by sushaantu

Here it is, we finally have the details on the first Indian to buy an iPhone, if we ignore the people who bought it through grey market or got it from USA through their relatives etc.. Officially the first person to get the Apple iPhone 3G is actually a Girl!! Don’t be surprised, Some Indian girls are geekier too. Her name is Swati Singh and she is the first iPhone buyer in India. She is definitely on the ninth cloud after this. She could be the first buyer as she had been waiting outside the store since six in the evening.

So, she waited for almost six hours to get an iPhone 3G which is insanely priced here at Rs 31,000 for 8GB and Rs 36,100 for the 16GB model in India. The wait of six hours is definitely nothing in contrast to the ones we saw in New York or even Tokyo but we must also understand that the ultra premium pricing of iPhone has kept many prospective customers away.

We were expecting some celebrity to come and launch the iPhone but later it turned out that iPhone was the only celebrity there. The DJ was playing Trance music which all of the RealGeeks simple love. That is bit off topic yet I would like to add that our office is a mini Music Jam of some sort where Aditi plays coolest Trance hits all stored on her Macbook Pro.

Coming back to the iPhone launch, there was a huge conventional media coverage but we were the only social media over there. We had real tough time to convince the security to let in and cover the event but apparently the security guys didn’t know what blogging or social media is.

The only people who were allowed to get into the store were the ones with huge cameras, microphones and t-shirts flaunting some news channel logo. We convinced and one decent Airtel crew member who eventually let us in. Probably, if we had some beautiful girl(s) with us we could get in without any hassle.

The fact that we were the only bloggers who were covering the event proves it quite clearly. We actually had to tell what blogging is and the basics of social media and they let us in only after they were somewhat convinced.

Nokia fares pretty well against Apple and Airtel in this regard as they have started to realize the power of social media. They have hired some PR people just to keep a watch on the blogs and they even contact bloggers to review stuff.

We don’t want to appear in the whining mode so please enjoy the pictures we captured there. They had this huge cake in the shape of an iPhone to celebrate the event and the cake was cut by the first Indian iPhone owner (Swati Singh).

Following are the pictures of first Indian iPhone owner and the cake with other related pictures.

There was also an interesting a big LCD screen made to look exactly like a huge iPhone.

You can contact us anytime if you want high resolution images of these or want to see more, we have hundreds of them.
