2000 to Vista

Posted: 01-07-2009, 04:18 PM

I finally trashed my old pc, built many years ago, then built a new on
and want to install Vista Home Premium. Having purchased a full versio
of Windows 2000 back then, I purchased an upgrade version of Vista. No
the problem... To upgrade to Vista I am supposed to do that whil
running windows 2000, my new system will not support 2000. I trie
installing 2000 but it wouldn't install.

What do I do, what do I do

According to this website, you have to do a clean install. It doesn't look
like there is an upgrade path.

What you do is return your upgrade edition of Windows Vista
and purchase a "full version" of Windows Vista and perform
a "clean install".

Smackjack,
Do you know why your rebuilt PC will not support a Windows 2000
installation?

It makes no difference whether you can install 2000, or not.
There is NO upgrade path from 2000 to vista; has to be a clean install.
Follow the links given to you for clean install from upgrade, or buy full
version of Vista.

Why should he do that? He owns a full version of Windows 2000 and an
upgrade version of Vista. Windows 2000 qualifies him for that upgrade
(see
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...c-options.aspx)
he just needs to do a clean install as indicated in other posts.

Carey is only here/active in the MS Groups to make the REAL MVPs look
even better than they are.

Thus, he actually serves a useful purpose.
