| New user here .. trying to get familiar with the product , BUT I can use some help: 1. Why do I keep seeing this popup " Windows needs your permission to ...." I have an admin account - why can't I/ the system run / open files by default ? I see that a lot . how to I get around it ? 2. Device drivers .... I get message "found new device" with no clue as to which device - ( and it 'needs my permission' to look for files) Any way to tell if it's onboard, PCI, etc ? Log files to give me a clue about an address / irq - something. 3. I heard about sidebar - gadgets. Where ? How ? I tried help and nothing. I know it's beta but I should could use help from the product to get me going. I changed video settings - to a bad setting - it changed anyway and my monitor went out of sync. I had to reboot F8 into VGA mode to get video back. Thanks Bobb | Guest

| 1) Turn off UAP - simple article here )http://www.vistabase.co.uk/welcome.p...ity/disableuap 2) I know what you mean - it's a pain. Check the Device Manager (Run, compmgmt.msc then select Device Manager) and check which section the Unknown device is under. More than likely networking, then find all the networking device drivers on disk for it. 3) www.microsoftgadgets.com - also if you right click on the Sidebar and select "Add Gadgets", there's a link on the full-Glass dialog to the site as well. These at the moment are primarily for Live.com, but will be implimenting full Sidebar gadgets by the time the public beta comes out. I just checked the box to not bother me again and left it in Dev mgr Quote:
an error when I tried to save to a new folder: I had to create the folder in advance using another window) and when I double-click them to run/add them I get this error on each one: (First it notes that they are signed etc and then I get ![]() ' Unable to load " < the correct path to where I just saved it> ". Invalid version attribute " value" . So the system-supplied ones load , but not the downloaded ones. I thought I'd read in PCWorld etc that there were a LOT of these ... and they had them running. What am I doing wrong ? I am making progress - thanks for the help Quote:

| Some of the gadgets are custom made by users and aren't endorsed by Microsoft - so they might break or not work 100% - but you should end up having a folder full of files with the .gadget extension - simply double click and it should load it in the Sidebar. Here's some links: http://www.vistabase.co.uk/welcome.p...defaultgadgets http://www.vistabase.co.uk/welcome.p...logies/sidebar http://www.vistabase.co.uk/welcome.p...glossary/index (click "G") -- Zack Whittaker » ZackNET Enterprises: www.zacknet.co.uk » MSBlog on ResDev: www.msblog.org » Vista Knowledge Base: www.vistabase.co.uk » This mailing is provided "as is" with no warranties, and confers no rights. I get the errors I mentioned below. They do appear in my gadgets folder but the appear as a "wrapped box". Like they have to be " unwrapped". BTW I just noticed in MAIL - when I backed up to correct my typing in the sentence above, I see a trail of the left edge of the cursor as I "left arrow", not over every character - maybe 5,6,7 in a row, then a few that it won't do , then trails, then none. They stay there until I 'type a character' I just did it and 'charact' did NOT get the fine line in front of them - but 'ter I just' DID have a fine line in front. Is this a mail ""feature"". What's the point ? Also Zack, I have yours as my homepage as I'm always needing help getting around . \Bobb Quote:
