Yup. Restored earlier image, and B is back to A. Still, it would be
instructive to learn how this is changed. In the Disk Management area,
the floppy is not listed, so letter swapping cannot be done there.

I didn't think floppy disks were used that much any more. I haven't used
one in four years or more. Come to think of it, I haven't used my old ZIP
disks either.

i still use mine, from 1998, the oldest part of my pc
i still make unfortunate errors in what i do, so still need them just to
make sure
like i deleted the boot up files thinking that there were on my windows
partition, *thumps head*

You may not need to fix it. I don't recall any issues when it comes to
floppies.

Open regedit

Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E980-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

You should see 0000, 0001 etc keys.

Delete all of the 0000, 0001 etc but leave the
{4D36E980-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} key and the properties intact.

Close regedit and open Device Manager.

Unistall the Floppy devices.

Reboot. The system will now redetect the floppy devices as though it was the
first time at setup and your default drive letters should be restored.

These are static keys that will retain their settings to reflect any option
changes a user makes hence the reason why simply uninstalling and
reinstalling from device manager does not work.

I restored a recent image and the problem was corrected, but next time I
will know more.
