A problem with this very forum

When I view this discussion group in EI it is in a expandable view of each
thread, whenever I click on a thread it takes a long time to load, sometimes
parts of it will never load.

When I view it in Firefox it is just a bunch of links to threads (like a
normal forum) and when I click on a lick it loads the page instantly.

Same experience here. I haven't tried Firefox yet but Opera 9 works similar
to it.

Try a newsreader like Windows Mail or (Outlook Express if you use XP).

If you want to read newsgroups, you should use a newsgroup reader.

Personally, I think web based forums should be BLOCKED from any form of
newsgroup access.

I couldn't agree more Noozer. I have never been able to understand why MSFT
has fielded so many of these groups (presumably to give an alternative to
people who get confused configuring the simple reader wizard for OE--or many
other readers out there) why they haven't improved it a bit over the years
and I wish they would just do away with the web based reader and increase
their publicity and sites with screenshots educating many more people on
using a reader and the groups themselves which are an always on source of
learning.

The answer is simple.
Microsoft did away with it's own newsgroups back in the MSN group days and
went to web based groups for one reason and one reason alone.
MONEY!
Newsgroups in readers have no place for paid advertising where as web based
newsgroups do.

I may not understand what you mean by "newsgroup", but as far as I know this
is a newsgroup.

You can access it through the web, but it is a real newsgroup. It is
microsoft.public.windows.vista.general. If you put newsgroup address into a
news reader you will get this newsgroup, and there are no adds that I can
see.

Todd--

Dotcom makes a good point, meaning the html web based newsgroups which at
least have a web page format for advertising and which MSFT the maker of IE
has never changed from a clunky ridiculously unusable interface.
