A side issue: VPN Windows Update Errors

I was going through the many errors in the windows update log for the day of
the installation. I am noticing that many of them are attempting to access
programs that are in my system via my VPN connection. I did not install the
XP SP2 under the VPN connection nor even under the login that accesses my
VPN so I am confused as to why Windows Update made attempts to get
information from the VPN (\\VALNT1...). Anyone have any ideas on this?
