A Vista (Home Premium) Shut Down Issue

Posted: 04-07-2007, 05:50 PM
I realized similar problems have been posted, but I just have to ask: is
anyone else having issues with the Vista That Just Won't Die?

I bought a new HP pavilion dv6000 with Vista Home Premium installer. All is
good (minus getting used to all the new options) except for ONE thing: Vista
won't shut down. And no, I'm not trying to shut it down with that odd sleep
button that fools you into thinking its a shutdown button. I select "shut
down" on the start menu, and it goes through the motions, and shuts down
properly.....for about 3 seconds. Then, as if a phantom has pressed the power
button, all the lights come back on and it starts whirring away! What gives?!
I wait until the computer is done starting up and go to start, select "shut
down" and the whole thing starts again.

My technician ran a test to check the hard drive, and that's not the issue,
and I have a sneaking suspicion it's all Vista's fault. And yes, I've gone to
the HP site to check on a BIOS update or whatever. Mine is F.16, updated
2/2/2007 which I think is the most recent.

Oh, and just for kicks, it'll shut down just fine every so often, so I look
crazy when I ask people for help.

Have a HP Pavilion dv5---- with Vista Ulimate installed and to date no
problems. I did make it a point to to reset all power management options
(believe me there are plenty ) disabling all sleep, hibernate, lid shutdown
options, power button options and a few I have forgooten about.

Type in command prompt after it wakes up

powercfg -lastwake

To see what could be doing it

puwercfg -devicequery wake_armed
