| I would like to transfer some files from my old XP laptop to my new Vista laptop. All available Windows updates have been applied to both boxes and both boxes are plugged into my Linksys BEFSX41 router. I must boot my XP box in "Safe Mode with Networking" because some unknown startup item has been causing problems. For both boxes, my logon account is a member of the local Administrators group and has a blank password. On my XP box, in Explorer I share the folder "xfer" which contains my files. I grant "Full Control" to "Everyone". On my Vista box, in Explorer I can see my XP box, but when I double-click on it I get the message : " <XP box name> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Logon failure: user account restrictions. Possible reasons are blank passwords not allowed, logon hour restrictions, or a policy restriction has been enforced." | Guest

| John, have you run the XP Home Network file and Printer Sharing wizard? That way, it should share with Vista! -- Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia "John A Grandy" wrote: Quote:

| In XP>start>control Panel>Network connections>In left-hand side>Set up a Home or Small business Network. When you are running it, it asks if you want to set up file and/or printer sharing. It does this to allow it in XP's Firewall. If you are running norton, you will have to make file sharing an exception too, if using its firewall instead of XP's. -- Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia "John A Grandy" wrote: Quote:

| Ok, when I go to XP>Start>Control Panel>Network Connections there is nothing on the left-hand side. I see only Local Area Connection and Wireless Network Connection Local Area Connection > Properties > General shows that File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is installed. On the Advanced tab there is a Network Setup Wizard link -- is this what you are referring to ? I also found a menu selection : File > Network Setup Wizard... Apparently this is the same wizard as above. I ran the wizard and specified turning on File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks , but I still get the same message when attempting to access my XP box from my Vista box.
