Default accessing ntfs private folders

I have 2 NTFS partitions on my hard disk. XP was installed on C:,
while my documents, downloads and so on are saved to D:. Recently I
had to reformat C: and reinstall XP. Everything went fine. However,
there's this folder on D: which was private to a particular user. I
thought that if created a new user with the same login and password I
would be able to access that folder, but that didn't make. I also
tried loggin in in safe mode as administrator, but I always get an
"access denied" message when I cd into that folder. Is there any way
at all to retrieve those files?

Thank you,
Pedro

This article describes how to take ownership of a file or folder
(non-encrypted) to which you have been denied access:
