activating

I personally had to activate mine twice last week because
of a start up problem, so I don't see why you should have
any trouble doing it again.

If you change certain compnents within your pc you will
be asked to reactivate - a hard drive is one such
component that requires a reactivation. You may have to
telephone the toll free number for activation, but you
should have no problems reactivating.
One tip, however, after reading Alisons reply. Never
activate straight away. You have 30 days to activate. Run
your machine for a week or two first to see that xp is
working ok before activating. This will prevent the need
to activate two or three times in one week. This also
applies if you have to reinstall xp.

Hope this helps

John is not quite correct. Replacing your hard drive does not require
re-activation. If you were to use a utility to clone your old installation
to the new hard disk, XP should just recognize the new hardware and go on
its way. Any time you do a clean or "repair" installation, though, you
will be required to reactivate. As long as you haven't changed too much
hardware, since the last time you activated, it should activate over the
internet with no problems.

See http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm for a good explanation of Windows
Product Activation, and you'll know when you're likely to have to
reactivate.

Greetings --

There's no limit to the number of times you can reinstall and
activate the same WinXP license on the same PC. If it's been more
than 120 days since you last activated that specific Product Key,
you'll most likely be able to activate via the Internet without
problem. If it's been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone
call.

Here are the facts pertaining to activation:

....that's a 5 minute, _pain free_ phone call. Unlike the beliefs of many
before XP even came out.

I wasn't given thirty days. It wouldn't let me log on
without activating. My system was in shambles though, so
this may have been a special case.

Chip,

The scenarios described should not offer any problems with re-activation.
