If I make significant changes to my hardware am I going to have problems
re-installing and then activating my copy of XP?
(I am thinking of changing the motherboard, cpu, and RAM...maybe more things
later)

Yes you will have difficulties but the best bet is to use
the phone option and simply tell them what you have done.
Microsoft isn't this big Corporate Ogre that everyone
imagines. They're human beings like you and I. Well you
anyway. Have fun.

Default Re: Activation

If you make all these changes you will have to do a repair installation and
probably reactivate. However it is not a problem. To do a repair
installation:

Start the operating system from the CD-ROM,

When the computer starts from the CD, the system checks your hardware

and then prompts you to select one of the following options:

To set up Windows XP now, press ENTER.

To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.

Press ENTER.

Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.

A box lists your current Windows XP installation, and then the system

prompts you to select one of the following options:

To repair the selected Windows XP installation, press R.

To continue installing a fresh copy of Windows XP without repairing, press
ESC.

Press R to start the automatic repair process. After repairing Windows XP,

you will need re-download all updates, starting with SP1.

Default Activation

Hi, our family just purchased a new XP Home edition
software. Our household contains 3 computers. With this
activation, is it possible to install XP on all 3
computers?

Greetings

No, just like every other consumer version of Windows you can only install
it on one PC. This is nothing new and has been around for years.

That's untrue.

But yes, Grant... with XP, they have finally come up with
a way to limit your installs.

Technically.

Take a look at the ELUA's from past OS's.

There is nothing untrue about the statement Chris made.
However your hollow response lacks anything to give your response any
credibility.
If you are going to state "That's untrue", you need to justify why you
are incorrectly making the statement.

Default activation

I believe that Microsoft allow installation of a second
copy of XP onto a laptop, given that the product was
originally supplied on a desktop.
Any advice on the matter?
