Activation Button?

Posted: 01-06-2007, 02:10 PM
I might have missed this. Is there a button or something that will initiate
Windows Vista Activation? When I installed Vista Ultimate RTM, I gave it my
serial number but told it not to activate on its own. I wanted to get
everything set up first before activating. So, upon finishing installation,
I dismissed the Activate notice. After a day or two, when I was sure I had
things right and I wasn't going to wipe the installation and start over, I
tried to Activate. Search brought up nothing. There's nothing in Control
Panel. Nothing on the Start Menu. Nothing on the Desktop. Nothing that I
could find, anywhere. Finally, this morning, Vista reminded me to Activate
(which I did). Is there someplace obvious that I missed in my search?

If you don't activate immediately after installation a small icon appears in
the notification area (usually after 2 or 3 days) reminding you to activate.
Failing that the activation details are usually found in Control panel.
Click the System icon and, in the main window, look under the Activation
section near the bottom. The button for activation is there (unless you have
already activated, of course, in which case it just tells you that vista is
activated.

Thanks. I see the area now. Of course, an entry in the Vista Help files or
Search engine would probably have been helpful.

You can activate at any time using the Activate Now link at the bottom left
of the System Properties page. Click the Start Orb, right click on Computer
in the right pane, click on Properties, scroll down as needed and look in
the bottom left.

Hi,

You can find the activation link by navigating to Start->Control panel ->
System. The search works with a context and boundary as you have to search
for "activation" in the control panel search not in the start search.

Hope this answers you question.

David

If you search for the term "Activation" in Help and Support, you will get a
number of results. One is "Activate Windows on this computer" which will
take you to the activation dialog. There are other results which explain the
activation process.

That's odd. I swear I did a search through Help and Support before. But, I
just did it again, and now the material you referenced is there. Oops.
Sorry about that.
