Have you tried bringing IE to the minimum security settings temporarily at
all? If not, try lowering them, applying settings and the closing IE. Then
open up IE and see if you still have the same issues with activex. If not,
then tweaking your security settings should suffice.

Default ActiveX

Can't run Windows Update. Says current settings for
internet security are prohibiting ActiveX controls from
running on this page. I've went into Internet settings
and have changed all security settings 1st to DEFAULT
(that didn't help) so then to LOW and under advanced,
have defaulted that. This is suppose to allow Windows
Update to run but it isn't. Any ideas???

Manually edit security to allow ActiveX instead of selelcting predetermined
settings. You're modifying the Internet zone.

This is a friends XP Home PC. She uses a dialup
connection. Brought it to my house & put on cable modem.
I can now at least browse the web but Windows Update
still aborts with ActiveX error. I am downloading latest
XP Service Pack 1a. Will install that & see what
happends. Her Symantec/Norton AV is getting errors while
running LiveUpdate, so not certain about it's status yet.
I'm afraid it's infected...thx for your effort.

Well, then I'm pretty sure that you're not changing the right settings in IE
in which case SP1 won't do you any good.
It's Tools / Internet Options / Security / Select "Internet", then "Custom
Level" and change all the ActiveX settings that are set to "Disable" to
"Prompt". Restart IE and I'm sure it will work.

Maria;
Open Internet Explorer
Click Tools

Click "Internet Zone"
Click Default
Click OK and follow prompts.
*******************************
Disable any spy blocking software, Tweakmaster, download accelerators
etc.

For Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003.
Manually install the latest controls:
Download the controls from:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...code/iuctl.cab
Save them to your desktop. Extract the .cab file following the steps
below:
1. Go to the desktop and right click the iuctl.cab file.
2. Click "Open".
3. Select all the files listed.
4. Right click on them and click "Extract."
5. Point to a known location (like the desktop) and click "OK."
6. Go to the location you selected and right click the iuctl.inf file.
5. Click "Install."

************************************************** ****************
Otherwise try these:
Go to:
**Windows XP**
C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\
**Windows 98/me**
C:\Windows
Right click on "hosts"
Click "Open"
Select Notepad for the application to open it.
Delete these lines if they are present:
akamai.net
Windows Update
Verify the following sites are fully trusted:
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Click "Tools," and then click "Internet Options."
3. Click "Security."
4. Click the Trusted Sites icon.
5. Click "Sites."
6. Clear the check box "Require server verification (httpsfor all
sites in
this zone."
7. Add all five sites listed above.

Default Activex

When I go to microsoft web page for updates. A pop
up appears "your current security setting prohibit
running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the
page may not display correctly"

I have tried the troubleshooting page but none of the
solutions there work for me.
What is the issue with this as I have received it in other
instances and don't know how to fix it.
