| Have you tried bringing IE to the minimum security settings temporarily at all? If not, try lowering them, applying settings and the closing IE. Then open up IE and see if you still have the same issues with activex. If not, then tweaking your security settings should suffice. | Can't run Windows Update. Says current settings for internet security are prohibiting ActiveX controls from running on this page. I've went into Internet settings and have changed all security settings 1st to DEFAULT (that didn't help) so then to LOW and under advanced, have defaulted that. This is suppose to allow Windows Update to run but it isn't. Any ideas??? | Guest

| Manually edit security to allow ActiveX instead of selelcting predetermined settings. You're modifying the Internet zone. "Scott" <HookSetr@Comporium.Net> wrote in message news:020401c36f48$736c9450$a401280a@phx.gbl... Quote:

| This is a friends XP Home PC. She uses a dialup connection. Brought it to my house & put on cable modem. I can now at least browse the web but Windows Update still aborts with ActiveX error. I am downloading latest XP Service Pack 1a. Will install that & see what happends. Her Symantec/Norton AV is getting errors while running LiveUpdate, so not certain about it's status yet. I'm afraid it's infected...thx for your effort. Quote:

| Well, then I'm pretty sure that you're not changing the right settings in IE in which case SP1 won't do you any good. It's Tools / Internet Options / Security / Select "Internet", then "Custom Level" and change all the ActiveX settings that are set to "Disable" to "Prompt". Restart IE and I'm sure it will work. | When I go to microsoft web page for updates. A pop up appears "your current security setting prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly" I have tried the troubleshooting page but none of the solutions there work for me. What is the issue with this as I have received it in other instances and don't know how to fix it. | Guest
