It would be very, very unwise to disable this basic security precaution. ActiveX is still a gaping hole in IE's and Windows security. For the specific web sites that you do trust, simply click on the message bar to install the ActiveX control for that specific web site. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. -Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. -Bertrand Russell | Guest

| What you suggested doesn't work. When I cilck on the gold bar I get only the More Information menu. I don't get the option to install it. I still want to disable it so I can get these sites to work. What is the use of having the internet if you can't visit half the sites on it. I think I make have to dump IE and use Mozilla Firefox. Mozilla Firefox is a 100% better browser than IE anyway. "Bruce Chambers" wrote: Quote:

I don't know about "100%," but I do prefer Firefox to IE. The main reason? No support for ActiveX, whatsoever. That's one less potential security vulnerability. (So sites that rely on ActiveX controls work even worse with Firefox, if at all.) -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. -Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. -Bertrand Russell | Guest

| I see the same issue. I have a clean install of Vista Premium and when i visit pages that need to use ActiveX controls, such as www.microsoft.com/downloads with 'office genuine's control, all i get is the option for "more information". I can't install the control... "silverdw" wrote: Quote:
