add printer and using the software provided still wont install my printer

I have a new printer (compatible with xp) when i install
with the software provided it starts and after a couple of
seconds it stops and asks me "to enable spooler service
and continue installation click yes" you click yes and it
takes you to desk top. I have tried adding new hardware
but that comes up with a similar message. I have tried add
printer (the bloody file is empty) it states "operation
could not be cpmlete"
PLEASE HELP ME as i am going to throw my p.c out the
window and there are people walking beneath my window and
i may kill them.
