Adding Object Types for Sharing

Posted: 12-05-2003, 12:40 AM
Hello,

In a peer to peer Workgroup, all running Windows XP
Professional on a LAN, is it possible to add a Computer
Object Type in order to assign permissions from another
computers local Users or Groups?

I would like to assign permissions for a shared folder
from one computer to either a User or a Group on another
computer. However, it doesn't list Computers as Object
Types when attempting to assign the permissions, only
local User and Groups. If you look in Locations, it only
shows the local computer and nothing on the network.

Many thanks if anyone has an answer.

No, this is not possible.
Even with a domain one can only add domain
accounts in addition to the machine's own.
Accounts defined on peer machines are never
directly usable.

Oh well, it was worth asking. I'm a domain admin so I
guess I would like to able to use some of the features of
the domain in my Workgroup.

Thanks anyway.
