| Hello, Here is my version of this problem. Running XP on new computer with fresh install of XP SP1 using HP LJ 1000. (1)Start computer and log on with a "user" account. Printer does not respond. Job shows up in the que but gets "error printing" message. (2)Start computer and log on with admin priviledges and don't use printer. Now logging of and then logging on as a "user" and printer does not respond. Job shows up in the que but gets "error printing" message. (3)Start computer and log on with admin priviledges and then print something. Firmware is downloaded to printer and print happens. Now logging of and then logging on as a "user" and all printing is happy. It seems like the printer needs that firmware download before it will work and that "user" accounts are not letting that happen. Before upgrading the printer driver the firmware download happened as soon as an admin account logged on so point 2 above did not apply then. I also have the same problem with the printer driver of the fax program (HotFax 5.1) If this has been solved since some of the old posts that I have read I apologise and ask for directions to the fix.
