| Patrick; No, there is no default password. Try leaving it blank. http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;321305 Or Reboot to Safe Mode, select Administrator, leave password blank. Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel. Select the user and change the password. If you are using Windows XP Pro and have encrypted data, you may permanently lose access to the encrypted data. Here are other options: http://www.wininternals.com/products...very/index.asp http://www.sunbelt-software.com/prod...&affid=wxpnews Another option is to install Windows XP on another partition and take Ownership of your data. You could also perform another installation on the same partition, although this is not a permanent fix and it is recommended to perform a Clean Installation after retrieving your data. After this is resolved, take precautions to not lose the password. -- Jupiter Jones [MVP] An easier way to read newsgroup messages: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p...oups/setup.asp Please respond to newsgroup only for everyone's benefit. | My, almost brand new, computer failed to boot. This was due to the, dreaded, article # 307545 issue that has been causing havoc among the XP users, like myself. I had to use the operating system CD that was provided with my computer to "solve" the problem. As instructed, I used the "R" for repair so as not to damage any of my files. One problem. All of a sudden I had a password error. Here's the rub. I didn't enter a password and had elected not to secure my computer. I'm the only user. Now I have have a computer with a name I didn't give it and an admin password that I didn't create. Can someone at Microsoft explaine this? Better, get me around it? My files are all there and very well protected, especially from me. Not funny guys. One last thing. If this registry corruption problem was widely known, why didn't you do a fix or at least send out a warning so we could have followed the instructions in article # 307545 and saved this kind of agrivation? Someone please help. Thank you, Wayne | Guest

| Hello. I administrate several computers that the public is free to use. One of my clients has broken the latest administrator password I created, and is no longer in the community. Now I need to reset it. Does anyone know how to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ula | Guest

Start Control Panel User Accounts Select Your Admin Account Change Password As long as you have the old password you lose nothing. It would be wise to change the password before the person who cracked it changes it and locks you out! At least 8 characters including a mix of letters, small and large case, and numbers is recommended. | Guest

| Hello, We are a small office and our previous computer admin does not work with us anymore. The problem is that our past admin has forgotten the password and we really need to use software that is limited to admin only. How can we reset the password? Or find out what it is? Thank you, | Guest

| Preston; Try leaving the password blank. The password is Case Sensitive. Check Caps Lock and try various of Capital combinations. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=321305 If you do not have a Password Recovery Disk, it is to late to make it. Or Log in to any account that has Administrator access. Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel. Select the user and change the password. Windows XP Pro: At the log-in screen, press Ctrl/Alt/Del twice quickly Type "Administrator" and leave password blank. Windows XP Home: Reboot, tapping F8 each second. Select Safe Mode at the menu. Select Administrator, leave password blank. Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel. Select the user and change the password. If you are using Windows XP Pro and have encrypted data, you may permanently lose access to the encrypted data.
