Administrator account access problem

Posted: 01-14-2004, 05:51 PM
Hi I am having problems trying to install a program. I am logged in with administrator access and can install other programs however every time I try to install Vectorworks upgrade Win XP says - "you do not have access to make the system configuration modification. Please rerun this installation from an administrators account" I have tried to set up new user accounts as computer administrator.

This problem has not occurred on other Win XP PC's with the same program & disk and with the same spec as I have another 5 with the same spec. I am a bit stuck now any ideas?

I have just installed Service Pack 1 to see if that would help & no luck.

This could be one of two problems. The first is a problem with corrupted
policy files. Here's the solution...
Firstt follow this article...

256000 Error Messages After Importing Basicdc.inf into Group Policy

Then run these commands at a command prompt.

"cd \winnt\security\templates" (without the quotation marks)
"secedit /configure /cfg "setup security.inf" /db ss.sdb /log ss.log
(without the quotation marks)
"secedit /configure /cfg basicdc.inf /db basicdc.sdb /log basicdc.log
(without the quotation marks)

Problem 2 is a possible problem with permissions on the registry of the
affected machine. Here's that solution...

1. Open the registry editor (Start-->Run:"regedit)

3. Right-click on "SYSTEM" and select "Permissions"

4. give the "Administrators" group full controll (if the Administrators
group is
not on the list, add it using the "Add" button)

5. click the "Advanced" button and put a check in the box labelled "Replace
permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here which apply
child objects"

6. Hit OK, the permissions may take a few minutes to set

7. repeat steps 3~6 for the "SOFTWARE" key

8. exit registry editor

Reinstall your software.
