advanced user configuration

Posted: 08-18-2003, 09:18 PM
i would like to configure my system to allow 2 different
users to "share" a single account such that the data and
settings for these users reside in the same place. i
suppose essentially what i am looking for is for
2 "profiles" of a single user. i have a laptop that i
use both at home and work. the problem is that i have
network settings and such for both that need to be
swapped between each time i go to work and come home. it
would be nice if i could simply logon to the computer as
different users who have their own network settings, but
where all other data and settings come from a single
place. any suggestions? i am using windows xp home
edition.

please reply to the newsgroup.

Open your network properties with "Obtain IP address automatically"
selected. Is there a tab available for Alternative setup?
I so, you that to setup your IP for your home network. When you boot the
computer it will automatically look for DHCP server. When it can't find one,
it'll use the IP information entered for the Alternative setup.

Having done that, I would use the same login for work and home.
That would prevent having to change the registry. XP will pick up on the
workgroups available on the network your connected to. Just look through
Network Places, Entire Network, Microsoft Windows Network.
