after hibernation computer doesnt start

Have been using hibernation for a while...a did some
updating and shut down the computer ...after switching it
on computer keeps restarting after loacding windows xp
splash screen....i tried last known good config ...and
also safe mode but hdd just restarts to that position as
well....

someone told me of a cumulative patch but im not sure how
im suppose to download and install it when the computer
doesnt boot into windows normally or in safe mode....

i do not want to format as of yet as i have one main
admin identity and there is data on it that needs to be
retrieved....

computer settings are as this:

-amd xp1800+
-512 mb ram ddr 333
-gigabyte ga-vrxp mobo
-40 gig ibm deskstar with a small windows partition and a
data partition
-direct x 9.0

im not sure what other detials is required

if anyone has has seen this prob and knows of a solution
please contact me on my email....i would really love a
solution
