[ANN] WE-DIG Seattle Meeting -- September 1

Posted: 08-03-2004, 03:30 PM
WE-DIG (Windows Embedded Developers Interest Group) is a new community-based
effort to bring Windows Embedded Developers together to discuss topics
regarding Windows CE, Windows Mobile, and Windows XP Embedded. The initial
group is forming in Redmond, WA, and being organized by eMVPs along with
Microsoft. Groups in other areas will form depending on interest.

To register, visit www.we-dig.org. If you're not in the Redmond area, you
can still register to express your interest of creating or joining a group
in your area. There will also be content available on the website
(transcripts and/or AV of the Redmond meetings) to registered users.

Our fearless leader Paul Yao of The Paul Yao Company (www.paulyao.com) asked
that I post this message (I have to say that so that proper credit can be
given to the "humor").

************** Meeting Announcement **************

The Windows Embedded Developers Interest Group (WE-DIG) is meeting on
Wednesday, September 1, 2004. And you are invited to attend.

The topic of the meeting will be Windows CE 5.0, which Microsoft released
just a few weeks ago. The main event for this meeting is a series of
interviews with three key players from the Microsoft Windows CE team.

WHEN: Wednesday Sept 1, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm

WHERE: Microsoft Main Campus, Redmond, WA, Building 34, Quinalt Room

Register on the WE-DIG web site at http://www.we-dig.org, to receive further
details about the September meeting via email.

------------ Some NBAQs (Never-Before-Asked Questions) ------------

Q. What topics are of interest to your group?

A. We are focused on three main areas: Windows CE, Windows XP embedded, and
Windows Mobile (Pocket PC and Smartphone).

Q. Are you a gardening club?

A. No. Next question?

Q. I am an ASP.NET programmer -- is there any reason for me to attend this
meeting?

A. Yes. Mobile and embedded devices are often client systems for web servers
(and web services). After all, the ASP.NET Mobile Controls were created to
support web content suitable for browsers running on mobile and embedded
devices.

Q. Are you sure you are not a gardening club?

A. No, we are still not a gardening club. Someone else?

Q. Do I need to attend a live meeting and deal with live people when I get
all the information that I need by Googling from the safety of my office?

A. Some people are going to get all the information that they need online.
If you are one of these people, you are go

Q. I don't live in Seattle; does WE-DIG have anything for me?

A. We have a web site, and we aren't afraid to use it. But seriously, we
want to help promote embedded and mobile development. Towards that end, we
are going to post notes (and -- if all goes well -- streaming video) from
our meetings. So if you are outside the Seattle area, you can still benefit
from what we have to offer.

Q. Who are you people if you aren't a gardening club?

A. We are a group of professional software developers who are experienced
with a wide gamut of Microsoft-based technologies. Some of us are Microsoft
MVPs, others are book authors. For the present, we are all interested in
developing and deploying embedded and mobile technologies in the context of
Microsoft-based client and server systems.

While we aren't gardeners, we plan to dig and weed. By this, I mean we plan
to dig up useful nuggets, and weed out the obstacles that get in the way of
embedded and mobile development.
