| I just can't find anyway to fix this. I was wondering if anyone would help me. I bought this computer back on the release of Vista and have yet to find something to fix. I would look every other week or so trying to find a fix. My DVD burner is ATAPI DVD W DH16W1P ATA DEVICE according to my Device Manager. If I could get any help with this it would greatly appreciated. -- aufanbrad | Guest

Could you describe what is going on in detail, please? "isn't working" doesn't tell us much. You imply the drive is recognized by Vista, but what does it do/not do? Can it read media? Can it write CD's but not DVD's? What happens if you put media in the drive, then try to access it in Windows Explorer? | Guest

| I believe the best bet would be to look for updated firmware on the mfg's site. Its possible that the drive does not have firmware that is set to function correctly with Vista (I had one). Then you would need to replace the drive or wait until the mfg comes up with a firmware fix. On Wed, 1 Aug 2007 04:40:00 -0700, aufanbrad <auburnfanbrad@aol.com> wrote: Quote:

| Is Device Manager reporting a problem for that device, with an Exclamation Mark icon? If so, what is the error code? Is Explorer showing your DVD drive when you open Computer? "aufanbrad" <auburnfanbrad@aol.com> wrote in message news:aufanbrad.2umxgv@no-mx.tabletquestions.com... Quote:

everything, CD, DVD, software and will make every 2/3 music CDs. When i try to burn data (either through windows or someother program) it will just give me an error message saying can not complete or something to that effect. Haven't really tried in the past month or so (been looking for a solution). Tried going to gateway to get something for the drive (like an updated driver) but they had nothing. Tried having windows look for an updated driver but it said i had the most up to date driver. I am gonna try burning something again in a minute and will post exactly what i get as the error message then. hope what i just gave help. -- aufanbrad | Guest

| Try to find out what make and model of drive you have and go to the mfgs website and see if there is a FIRMWARE update... many CD/DVD drives (like Lite-On) are not totally compattible with Vista and will be "flaky" when it comes to reading and writing... | Not sure who made the drive but it may be LG. Check on their website and see if thats so and if they have a FIRMWARE update for the drive, I had problems like this with a Lite-On dirve but they did not have Vista compatible firmware and I replaced the drive with a Samsung and all is well...
