any way to stop vista searching in the recycle bin

Posted: 01-15-2009, 03:06 PM
hi,

whenever I do a search from explorer in vista (i.e. typing in the top
right hand corner of the explorer window), it seems to bring up
results from the recycle bin at the top of the list and i have to
scroll down to see the results i wanted

is there any way to stop it searching in the recycle bin? most of the
time i don't want to search there at all

andy

Hello Andy

The way to exclude the recycle bin is to start your search in a location
that excludes it. For example, if I start a search from C:\ or E:\ or my
user name folder , I get no results from the recycle bin. If I start a
search from the "Everywhere" or "Indexed Locations", then I see results
from the bin. So search by drive or by folder instead.

You have control over the sort order of results in Explorer. You can use
the column headers to force a different sort. For example, an ascending
sort by the Folder heading will usually put the bin results near the
bottom of the list.

Do you always store files in the recycle bin? When I throw files away, I
empty the recycle bin. Then it won't be a problem.

Empty the recycle bin before searching
-or-
(for the brave-hearted) stop using the recycle bin completely.
