Arranging Icons on the Desktop

When I right click the desktop and click Arrange Icons
By, click Name, the icons do not rearrange by name. For
example, icons labeled XYZ 2003 amd XYZ 2004 usually
appear in different columns of icons.

If you right-click a blank area of your desktop and press Arrange Icons and
by Name, the resultant list is not totally alphabetical?
