| I am using XP pro. When I go to control panel/User Accounts there is a user named: ASP.NET MACHINEA... I have no clue where this came from. Have I been hacked at some point and someone has set up a user account, or is there a valid application that may have created this. If it is part of a valid account what is it for? | Guest

| I noticed the same thing (I deleted it) around the same time that IE6 stopped opening asp webpages that I try to navigate to. I don't know whether this is a coincidence or not, but I'm worried to that I've been hacked - yet Ad-aware says the machine is clean. | Just a quick note: I apologize for asking the same question that everyone seemed to have found the answer to. I ran a search in the NG and found my answer. For the Microsoft .Net Framework. I get that what I don't get is WHY is it a user account and exactly what information does this account provide to sites? I do not have a web server on my home computer so I am not sure why I need this? If I wish to remove the user is there some type of password I will need? | Guest

| Hi, You can remove the user account - no harm. It will be required only when you write ASP.NET based programs (which require IIS web server) on your computer. | This is because you have done the updating. You now have the .NET framework program installed on your computer. This will allow you to access and see sites that use the .NET. This is the wave of the future so get used to it. You can of course delete it but why bother? In the future the vast majority of sites will be using the .NET Framework. For a more thorough explanation of .NET you can do an internet search or go to www.microsoft.com and do a search for it. Good luck. | Guest

| Hi, Don't delete it for now. There are many third party programs that utilize it. If you are not using auto-logon, ignore the added user for the time being. -- All the Best, Kelly MS-MVP Win98/XP [AE-Windows® XP] Troubleshooting Windows XP http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Top 10 Frequently Asked Questions and Answers http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm "KrustyKrabs" <krusykrabs@cogeo.ca> wrote in message news:0fab01c34681$528e2a40$a001280a@phx.gbl... | Hi Sam, Which version of .Net Framework: .Net 1.0 does not create the user, .Net 1.1 does create the user account with or without IIS being installed. As for the added user, check here: Start/Run: control userpasswords2 Users for this computer. | You are very welcome, Sam. Your .Net version will be listed in Add or Remove for one. And yes, .Net 1.1 can be downloaded from Updates. -- All the Best, Kelly MS-MVP Win98/XP [AE-Windows® XP] Troubleshooting Windows XP http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Top 10 Frequently Asked Questions and Answers http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm "Sam" <scams@msn.com> wrote in message news:#tf#VFTSDHA.1572@TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... | A new user account called "ASP.Net Machine A..." showed up after I installed SP1. Is it safe for me to remove this? Also, I want Windows to automatically log on to my account at startup. The guest account is off, and mine is the only one, except for the ASP.Net, but it still starts up with the welcome screen. Will removing ASP.Net fix the problem? | Guest

| Hi Sam, Leave it be for now. 1. Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2 and press ok. 2. On the Users tab, clear the Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To Use This Computer check box and then click OK. 3. In the Automatically Log On dialog box that appears, type the user name and password for the account you want to be logged on each time you start your computer. Add Control UserPasswords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1) http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm -- All the Best, Kelly MS-MVP Win98/XP [AE-Windows® XP] Troubleshooting Windows XP http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Top 10 Frequently Asked Questions and Answers http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm "Sam" <samjones1986@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:0d3701c3584b$e42901b0$a501280a@phx.gbl...
