atapi cdr/cdwr drive not installing in win XP

XP I get the "new hardware found"
dialog,,, and windowsXP cannot find the correct drivers
even on the internet. I
have tried two different units with the jumpers
on "master" and
"cable select" on the IDE 1 (secondary) ... same thing
every time. I
haven't tried to hook up the cdr/cdrw on the primary IDE
as a slave yet(the
machine came with only one hook up on the primary cable.
I can't seem to find anything on this at Microsoft
Knowledge Base either.
I have never had the "New hardware found" box pop up
before when
adding a burner.
