Audio Device Driver will not load

comes with a Yamaha AC-XG Audio Device. Recently, the
device driver fails to load, with an error message
stating that Windows will become unstable, and therefore
unable to load the driver. I checked with Yamaha...they
said to check with Toshiba. Toshiba pointed the finger
to Microsoft, but I cannot find an appropriate driver to
download. So I have no sound, and can find no solution.
Any suggestions? (Note: this problem began after I
attempted to download Service Pack 1...which I had to
abort because it was creating other problems with my
laptop.)
