audio- Irratic, slow playback

MAUDIO, a Delta 66 24/96khz quality. All of a sudden, at
some point when I play a audio CD or run Media Player 9,
I get irratic, distorted playback. It will even slow
down at times. I noticed when the led that shows data is
is transferring on my hard drive, this is when the
problem occurs. I can move the mouse device quickly back
and forth to get the media player to speed back up to
where it should be. this problem started I think, after
installing some new programs or downloads off the
internet. Not really positively sure what caused this
situation. Any suggestions on what I need to do?
