Did you update yr Virus deffinitions, and Win critical updates, turn on yr
Firewall?
I recently activated a new pc, out of the box, it became infected in the
time it took to make a connection, update AV and turn on firewll.

misty,

If your computer is as new as you stated in your reply, take it back to the
mfg and have them fix it.

If for some reason my suggestion above is not practical, then post back with
the text (error message) you receive when the system reboots. . .assuming
your receive an error message.

misty/etal
deselect - 'automatically restart'
you have some good recommendations - and while those
are getting chk'd out - you might try this
ie
go start/control panel/perf...and maint/system/
go advanced tab/startup and recovery - section/
go 'settings'/system failure - section/
deselect - 'automatically restart'/
click - 'ok'/ click - 'apply'/
and
take it fr there

Misty

There is a setting in the BIOS on most systems called Wake on LAN or Wake on
Ring. This will cause the computer to restart when the telephone line it is
connected to receives a call. Consult your manual for information on how to
access the BIOS settings and disable this option.

I allways thought 'wake on ring' was designed to bring pc off standby in
order that the call be excepted by whatever software - my mistake?

ok i turned off the automatic restart, the error report
that finally showed up when it would restart said that a
device driver installed on my system is what was causing
it but that they couldnt track which one it was or why it
was doing it
