Automatic Update

Posted: 07-31-2003, 02:47 PM
I receive update 811630 everyday. I install it but get
the same update again the next day and everyday. If I
install it and it tells me it has been installed, why do
I keep getting the update?

Hi

Did you try the manual update method to see if your computer is able to connect to the Windows Update website and download the patches. Check that first and see if it works.

Then reconfigure the Automatic updates to notify you when the updates are ready to be installed and see if you get any notification

automatic update

Dear all:

I have a couple of questions about automatic update.

1) some updates require you to restart the computer. Does this mean
automatic update will restart my computer automatically.

2) if it does not rstart automatically does this mean that I need to
manually restart the computer in order for the update to be effective.
or can automatic update somehow patch it without restarting.

I am very concern with these two issues because currently I have auto
update on, but I rarely restart it so I am worry that it is vulnerable
and I don't want auto upate to restart my computer automatically
because my computer is hook up to an aquisition device, which is on 24
hours.

thanks in advance.

Hi

You will have to click 'OK' to reboot your PC - it isn't rebooted
automatically. Some Updates do need a restart as system files are
replaced/updated.

1. No, additional updates would not automatically install until after YOU
reboot the computer. 1 day, 5 days, 5 weeks, it doesn't matter.

2. See above.

You should consider rebooting your computer more often. You will overcome
your concerns, plus your computer will perform better.

Hi Al

The same applies - you have to manually reboot the PC yourself - it's not
done automatically.

Hi Will, thanks for your help. I kind of suspected that was the
case-juste needed some verification.
