| Every time I turn on my computer I get a notice that I have updates to do. I let it start then I get an error message that the updates were not approved by microsoft and aren't being used. then it starts another one..............time after time for hours They never finish and are never complete. Why have automatic updates if they can't be used or recognized. this is a waste of time. either approve them or don't let them start! | Guest

| Hi, I am planning to configure Windows Automatic Updates service so that it downloads new updates automatically and notify me when they are ready to be installed. Is there a way I can set how often I get notified that new updates have been downloaded? Ideally, I am looking for a way to disable the notification altogether. Thanks for your help. P | Guest

| Not sure where to find trouble shooting assistance on Autoupdate We are having difficulties making AutoUpdate work off of a corporate LAN. We have machines located both behind a restricted firewall and sitting open on the interenet. The basic symptoms are... Autoupdate Service is running... and configured (option 3) to grab updates and install at a specified time each day. We don't see anything in the system logs to suggest it runs... we don't get the updates (as noted by running a manual persual through Win Updates in IE)... Not sure what to make of it. Suspicious that something else needs to be setup on box. Anyone know ports involved in communication? any thoughts on what else to look at? | Guest

| We are having the same issue. Our firewall guy says he will enable the port if we can find out what port its looking for. Anyone know what port the Automatic Updates are trying to use? It doesn't appear to be port 80 since our proxy is there. Quote:

| Since installing an updates pack, that was given to me as part of the support from my laptop, I've been unable to turn off automatic updates. I have administrator access, but the automatic updates dialogue in system->automatic upates, is greyed out. I want to turn off automatic updates and return control to me. | Guest

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp and click the button. Sometimes you have to refresh the screen to get the button to appear. Bill | Guest
