avoiding "Add New Hardware" <wizard>

Posted: 02-14-2004, 12:10 PM
Hi there ..

i have XP here and about 600 devices (our own hardware) to get
connected every now and then to the PC. they all use a FTDI 245 B chip
and have the same PID and VID but different serial numbers. for every
serial number not known to XP the dumb hardware "wizard" comes up -
despite the fact they all use the same driver ...

any ideas ?!?!?

1) eg - can i write the strings programmatically into registry ?!?!?
(but where)
cant write here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\U SB\Vid_0403&Pid_6001

2)or is there a way to inform windows to use ONE dirver for all
sharing the same VID/PID without user interaction ...

3) or can i (worst case) have an "invisible installer"

thanx
w.b.
