backup from DAT

I have recorded material that I need to backup. Would like to record to my hardrive for furthur copy to CD. My Sony DAT will connect via digital output from DAT to miniplug for input to computer. (no usb or firewire available). OS is windows XP home, Gateway 500 (has line-in for miniplug). What application enables this proceedure? Have looked at "help" in "sound recorder" but can't find basic instructions to get started.
