Default Backup And Restore Centre, to a network drive

Hi, I am trying to use RTM Backup Centre to backup files to a network
drive (in a workgroup).

However, for some reason it's not working. The only thing worth
mentioning, is the server is a Samba server. I can access the folder I
want using explorer, read, write, delete, create files and directories
without any problem, however the backup centre insists on prompting for a
password.

I then get the error: Cannot create a file, when that file already exists.
0x800700b7

The backup program has created a folder with some GUID.

Is backup still broken in RTM?

I'm having this same problem ...

I can access the Samba network shares without any problems, and the GUID
folders are being created with what appear to be logical permissions (that
is, they're owned by the account that I've specified as the login account for
doing the backup) ... but it still fails:

---------------------------
Back Up Files

The network share could not be accessed for the following reason:
Cannot create a file when that file already exists. (0x800700B7)
Please ensure that the network location is valid.
---------------------------
OK

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. We added a question/answer in our FAQ for
this at
http://blogs.technet.com/filecab/pag...vista-faq.aspx
(see the last question). The issue is most likely with your device's
implementation of SAMBA.

Well, in my case, the device is my old box, running Ubuntu server with samba
3.0.22 on it ... I'm not sure what else to try!

If Backup succeeds in making a folder, why is it refusing to do the backup?
And worse, why is it failing with such a miserably USELESS error message?

The account that I'm logging in on is 'joel' in a group called 'bennetts'
.... the folder that it's being pointed at is //server/joel/backups/ which
has permissions like:

drwxrwxr-x 6 joel bennetts 272 2007-01-26 17:20 backups

The backup tool is succeeding at creating folders in there, and they have
the proper permissions to allow it to start writing files no problem (just
for example):

drwxrwxr-x 2 joel bennetts 48 2007-01-25 20:16
{11BF7331-C729-45EB-887A-4F7A9057E3FF}
drwxrwxr-x 2 joel bennetts 48 2007-01-26 11:00
{47665EB4-76D4-4DFB-AF5E-3CD3741234C8}
drwxrwxr-x 2 joel bennetts 48 2007-01-26 17:20
{58BF853C-C737-448F-A3CB-B726EB804D4D}
drwxrwxr-x 2 joel bennetts 48 2007-01-26 17:20
