Default Beta to Final

Is there going to be any kind of file system change between Beta (2) and
Final, or will the transition from the Beta version to the Final version be
made as simple as possible. I am considering downloading the Beta to my
computer to see how it's working, but if it will not upgrade from the Beta
version to the Final version, I don't think I want to do that.

In the past it is usually possible but not recommended. You would have to
wait to upgrade to RC1 and not install any build in between. Then, go from
RC1 to RTM. If this is a production system (and it sounds like it is) I
wouldn't recommend Vista at all. If you are not willing to play a little
bit and format your hard disk a few times, I think I would stay away from
Beta 2.

Yeh, I'd agree actually. I doubt very much whether you'll be able to upgrade
from the last beta build to the RTM copy. However, we'll have to see what's
to come )

Upgrades are to be avoided, period. Back it up, slick it via installing new
OS "clean", restore from backup, have at it. Only install Vista Beta builds,
or any Beta build for that matter, on a "SkunkWerks" computer that is not
your everyday bread-and-butter computer. Unless you are the adventurous
(read: reckless) type... ;-D

As with all beta software, it's highly recommended to get rid of it and do a
clean install with the RTM.

I would agree with what everyone is saying, but to make it simple, you can
partition you hard disk, put you OS on drive C: and put all your files on an
other drive, I even copy all my install DVDs to my second partition so I can
rebuild the OS and reinstall ALL apps it not time at all.

Its possible that build to build upgrades of the beta will be supported in
the software, but the scenario is not supported or recommended since unknown
problems can take place that will make it complex to diagnose issues. No,
the RTM will not support upgrades from the betas/RCs.

It is incorrect to say that RTM will not upgrade RC builds. This has yet to
be determined.

He's right - it can't work like that. RC builds are uavailable to be bases
for upgrades to an RTM'd copy of any operating system.
