Bioshock: First non-game nightmare.

Hey everyone, (Skip to the bottom for the summary of this email, story
follows)

For those that know, i'm really into Bioshock. I'm about half way through
run #2 and finding out that killing little girls is a lot of fun (Take that
J.T.), but when I went to play last night I was shocked to discover that
Bioshock had contracted a Virus!

I brought up Games Explorer and AVG Free instantly popped up a message
saying that Bioshock.exe had a virus. I can't remember the name, but it
started with Obest... and ended with .JXR

I clicked the Heal button, feeling slightly concerned, but glad the virus
was caught. Unfortunatly AVG "Healed" the virus infected file by deleting
it. Obivously with Bioshock.exe gone there was no way to start up the game.
Uninstall time.

During reinstall the game had no issues, and no further virus warnings came
up until at the end of the install Bioshock downloads Bioshock.exe over the
net, it's a SecuROM thing, and pow, AVG has "saved" my computer again from
the same vicious virus.

Scan time, gotta be something running on my system. About an hour later,
negative, no virus found save for the file downloaded (and deleted) from my
HD.

Google time. Came to a couple links online saying some people are having
problems with AVG and Bioshock under Windows XP. Solution, uninstall AVG. I
didn't like that, been using AVG for a long time, but I figured it was time
to give Avast or NOD32 a try. Uninstalled AVG, Installed Avast, reinstalled
the game (Didn't have to re-activate the game btw. All my saves remained
in-tact as well) and i'm back in Rapture.

--
Summary: AVG/AVG Free thinks Bioshock is a Virus (and the SecuROM freaks
will tell you it is, but lets digress for this thread, ok?) and deletes it.

To fix: Uninstall AVG and install something like Avast!

Obivously this is a blow for anyone who paid for AVG. Maybe AVG will fix the
problem, as before yesterday AVG didn't think Bioshock was a problem, and
now it does.

-A.

I got the same thing. Not a Virus, but a security measure in the game. You
need not uninstall AVG Free, as they fixed the problem with their next
update. 2K went out of their way to make this game hack proof. I believe it
took a week for the hackers to get around their security measures.

Yeah, well too late, already running Avast, but causing problems so might go
back eventually.

Yes, I know the whole "copy protection only punishes the non-theives"
arguement. I just don't let it bother me that much.
