RE: BitLocker Drive Encryption Ultimate Extra

Hello Jason,

Yes, currently many use BitLocker, and BitLocker functions flawlessly for
enhancing Vista's Security !

Also, does -not- absolutely require a TPM Module Chip for realizing the
enhanced Security benefits of BitLocker.

Respectfully expressed, it seems too apparent that if you read 1st) Vista's
"Help and Support" Files, including 2nd) Vista's new "Start Search" Field
(just type your request) also Microsoft's online Search, and the (tied for
1st) "Welcome Center" very easily you will learn more that ever could you
imagine !

Main purpose for the above, if you do not read the Vista's (BDE) BitLocker
Setup Instructions, soon you will have more questions than current questions.

Question for you: Do you have a special (the first, not second) partition at
least 1.5 Gig on your HDD just for BitLocker?

As for the error, the message is:
Title of the popup box: Bitlocker Drive Encription
Contents of box: Error Preparing drive for BitLocker
The BitLocker Drive Preparation Tool could not find a target system drive. You may need to manually prepare your target drive for BitLocker.

Jason,

By this time you should be more than fully aware the Poster known as Paul
Adare has extremely little knowledge of Vista’s Technology, specifically
BitLocker.

Paul Adare is merely a non-paid Forum participant deeply needing technical
knowledge regarding Vista’s many inherent Features.

Also, Paul; Adare is -not- a Microsoft employee; too obvious from his Posted
responses.

Jason,

Thanks for using our tool! Based on your system configuration, it
looks like the problem is that the tool is unable to shrink your drive
by 1.5GB. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot you can do to get around
this, as it is a limitation in the Vista defrag engine that the tool
uses.

To verify that this is the problem, click the Start pearl, then type
"cmd". Right click on cmd.exe and choose "Run as administrator". After
going through the elevation prompt, type "diskpart" on the command
line. When the diskpart prompt comes up, type "sel vol c", then "shrink
querymax". If the number reported here is less than 1.5GB, then this is
indeed the problem.

If this is the case, please refer to 'this KB article'
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/930063), particularly
under the section "A common problem" for some potential workarounds. We
of course value your feedback and are always looking for ways to enable
our customers to use and love our features.

Regards,

I did what you recommended and this is pasted directly from that line.

The maximum number of reclaimable bytes is: 45 GB

Any other ideas?

You don't have a clue what you're talking about, as per
usual. At least you're consistent.

I never said I was. I do, however, have experience with
BDE and have presented on the topic at a number of
Microsoft TechEd events. Your lack of credentials are
patently obvious given the incorrect answers you keep
providing here.

My understanding from this Vista Ultimate Extra tool, It will prepare your system & create a small partition out of my current one.

This is from http://windowsultimate.com/blogs/ext...ancements.aspx

This Ultimate Extra includes two tools that make it easier to use some of the security features that come with Windows Vista Ultimate:

a.. Windows® BitLocker™ Drive Preparation Tool - configures your hard drive so that you can use the BitLocker Drive Encryption feature of Windows Vista.
b.. Secure Online Key Backup - stores a backup copy of your BitLocker recovery password and Encrypting File System (EFS) recovery certificates in your digital locker.
So based on this, I should not have needed to have a 1.5 gig hd already made. The tool should create one from my current and only partition.

Your understanding is correct Jason. The poster that replied to
you doesn't have a clue what he's talking about and you should
just ignore what he posts. He's constantly changing his posting
ID here and the information he posts is consistently inaccurate.

What does the current partition scheme on your hard drive look
like?
