Default Blocked Pix

I have standard Home XP and Win Messenger 4.7.0105.
I was able to, but cannot now receive Pix from friends
through Messenger. Senders are told there is a blockage.
I can send same to others without a problem.
My XP Internet Connection Firewall is not checked.
I have Norton Internet Security.
Hoping that you can help me, Crocketty

Greetings Crocketty,

Due to the way Messenger receives files, any problem receiving files is most likely on the
side of the person sending (when you receive, you connect to your contact and download the
file). This is probably due to either the contact sending having a firewall that isn't allow
Messenger to connect to the correct ports, or not using a router with support for Messenger
file transfer, or an UPnP enabled router and MSN Messenger 5/6.

As well, if they continue to have problems, both you and your contact might want to try using
MSN Messenger 6 instead, which has a slightly newer file transfer protocol:

Thank you Jonathon, Due to the fact that pix were blocked from 2 different
senders,
I had presumed the fault to be at my end.
Months ago I updated my standard Windows Messenger and found that I then had
both MSN and Windows Messenger - which was very confusing to both me and
friends.
I have been happy with Windows Messenger. If I do update to MSN 6, I guess I
have to
drop Windows to avoid this problem.
Crocketty.

Hi Crocketty,

You're welcome =). In this day of NAT (routers/sharing internet software) and firewalls,
plenty of people are "blocked" from sending files.

If you do decide to give MSN Messenger 6 a go (remember your contacts will also need to use
it, since they're the ones with the actual problem), you can disable Windows Messenger, so it
doesn't come up. To do so, open up the main Windows Messenger window, click the Tools menu,
then Options, then Preferences tab and uncheck 'Run this program when Windows starts'.

This won't remove Windows Messenger, but it will let it stay out of your way, and allow MSN
Messenger 6 to work properly. Also,
you'll probably want to turn off the Windows Messenger integration in Outlook and/or Outlook
Express (depending on what you have it installed). To do so, for Outlook (XP/2002), just
open Outlook, click the Tools menu, then Options, then the Other tab, and uncheck 'Enable
Instant Messaging in Microsoft Outlook'. For Outlook Express, close
Outlook Express, and run this .reg file:
