| I am trying to upgrade to XP from me. My first attempt was yesterday and after several strange issues during upgrade finally got installed but due to odd issues called tech support to see if I should uninstall or re- install. As soon as I got them on line discovered I already had blaster so dealt with that ,then after looking at a few things he (tech support) decided I needed to: 1. Uninstall windows XP. 2. Uninstall norton sytemworks. 3. Run upgrade report. 4. Copy a flat and run winnt32. Did all of above then when running setup get blocking issue regarding fax. I have uninstalled fax program, deleted any fax looking files, rebooted, run defrag and all tools AND spent 4 hrs with tech rep on phone again which involved hiding several files from the startup (i think thats what we did). Still get the issue. then he suggested to run upgrade report first and then run install, but of course upgrade report shows the blocking issue and install won't get past it. I have all items unplugged except keyboard mouse and display. I think this upgrade will cost more in phone $$ than the upgrade! Part of problem and reason for upgrade is difficulty getting iexplorer to cooperate with me in winme so i am using a neighbors computer to beg for help. Does anyone know of a link or source where I can get more info on this issue or a fix??? | Guest

| I will try it, thank you soooo much. If this works, I will wonder why I spent 4 hrs on the phone with a tech? Does microsoft reimburse for phone $$? Quote:

| If you acquired an "OEM version" of Windows XP, you cannot upgrade over an existing Windows O/S. Only a "retail version" of XP can upgrade. OEM versions require a "clean install". | It is a retail version. I have installed it and then returned to windows 98se and when I tried to re-install xp I get the "Other Operating System Found" message. I guess the original installation has put something on my system (maybe in the registry)? Phil Quote:
