If your watching the files on cd this can cause the
system to crash as it eats your resources big time, so
copy to hard drive and then watch, try and close as many
apps as poss before watching to free up resources, also
check what you are running in the background as in icons
in the task bar if you don't need them bin em, or
download ram booster free from download.com to speed up
the memory and free up resources, it all points to lack
of system resources that's why it's crashing, either that
or you os is shagged, try a reinstall choosing the repair
option, or increase your virtual mem

Blue Screen of Death
Posted: 07-21-2003, 03:23 PM
When ever I update Windows from there update site
everything updates fine except one driver, this one:
NVIDIA Corporation Media Driver Version 5.10.2918.0 : 2003-
02-02

When I download it and it installs I get the Blue Screen,
so then I hit restart because it is losked up, when it
comes back up I have no sound and most things in widows do
not work. Windows Explorer, Control Panel, most things do
not work. I also do not have any sound. Safe mode will not
work nor will system restore, last known good
configuration, nothing will work. So I emailed Microsoft,
these idiots do not know what is going on because they
keep telling me there might be a problem with the video
card, well there is a big difference between the sound
card and the video card. And they add that this driver
will not cause problems with my video card, well i hope
not since I have an ATI video card. The nVidia is the
sound not the video and I have told them this and they
told me I was wrong. I know I can install everything
except that one driver, but I do like keeping everything
updated, I wuill not install it but if anyone has any
Ideas let me know, thank you. Also here is my system specs
if it will help:

Michael

It's not clear from your post whether you have resolved the lock-up issue or
not. Are you looking for suggestions to recover your system functions or
general advice about updates?

Updates for hardware included on the mainboard should *only* be sourced from
the mainboard manufacturer's website.

The reason why, as you have discovered, is that occasionally general updates
can cause conflicts with some individual mainboard manufacturers system BIOS
which are designed to accommodate, and hopefully optimise, *all* the
on-board hardware.

hope that helps

Hi,

Have you gone to the nvidia website and download the latest
drivers for your sound card. That might be the root of the
problems. Good luck.

Thanks for your your help, I am using the latest from the
manufacturer, but I was wondering since Microsoft had an
update for it it would be better, but, I will not install
it. I guess I'll be ok as long as I have the newest
drivers from the manufacturer. Thank you again for your
help.

Thanks, Mark

There isn't a Turbo option in the BIOS, and it doesn't
give me the option of changing the RAM timing. It gives
me the option on CLAS of, Auto, 2, or 2.5.
Thanks again!

Blue Screen of Death

If anyone could help me out. I would appreciate it!

(Original post)
Every 30 minutes or so. I get the Blue Screen of Death.
What codes it gives me are,

Stop: 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, 0x80608BDE, 0XF231DBE8,
0X00000000). I also get

Stop: 0x0000004E (0x00000099, 0x00000000, 0x00000000,
0x00000000) and

STOP: 0x0000007F (0x00000008, 0x80042000, 0x00000000,
0x00000000). Anyone have any Ideas?

I'm running a home built computer,
AMD 2200+
Asrock K7S8X
1 GB DDR Memory (2x512MB)
Windows XP Pro.
ATI Radeon 7500
Samsung Sv4084H 40 GB HD
Samsung CDRW 48-24-48
Hitatchi DVDROM 8x
Thermaltake Volcano 7

Thanks in anvance!

(First reply)
Probably related to your memory. Two pieces of 512
require more relaxed memory timings than one single
piece. Make sure you do not have "Turbo" settings applied
in BIOS, and loosen the RAM timings until you stop getting
errors.
