Boot Error RC1

Posted: 08-29-2006, 07:46 PM
I just did an upgrade install to Vista RC1 from XP Pro. I downloaded the iso,
mounted it in a virtual rom, and then did the install. Everything went fine
except when Vista restarted the computer for the final time, and attempted to
boot. The system did not boot, and wouldnt boot in safe mode or anthing. None
of the boot options worked at all, so I rolled back to my version of XP....
everything seems to still be there, but I cant find a reason why this
happened... My system is running a Dual Core Intel Pentium D 3.2 ghz, with 3
gb of ddr2 ram dual 160gb SATA hard drives, and an Nvidia 7800GTX... Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

this rom is NOT there when you restart

BURN it on a PHYSICAL disc

and everything will work

No need to burn it, but I will say it is very much recommended. The copying
files and extracting files take care of the fact that the virtual drive will
not be available to setup when your computer restarts.

As for the actual issue here(your computer not booting on the final
restart), you might want to try a clean install. Sometimes it is just weird
like that. Don't forget to report you problems to Microsoft using the beta
reporting tool.

I used Daemon Tools 4.0.3 to Successfully Install Build 5536 from a Windows
XP Service Pack 2 Installation, worked without a hitch.

Turns out the virtual rom wasnt the problem, because it extracts all the
files it needs before restarting the computer. Actually what was happening
was my external hard drive was trying to act as the primary drive, and not
allowing it to load all the way. Got that taken care of and now everything
runs perfect. Thanks for the posts
