Boot issues

Posted: 06-14-2006, 01:34 AM
I am a long time windows user and just tried the Vista Beta today.
Everything appeared to install fine, but for some reason, I cannot boot it.
If I start up the computer, I see the Vista loader bar, and from then on, the
screen goes blank and nothing else happens. I can boot Vista in safe mode,
but how do I try it out like that?

PC Config:
AMD3700+ (64-bit with 64-bit Vista beta)
2048MB Cosair XMS RAM
ATI X1600XT Pro AGP 512MB (with apropriate 64-bit vista driver)
Soundblaster X-Fi Platinum (Vista driver will not install)

Anyone else having this issue and know how to fix it? Should I try just
reinstalling Vista?

I would try reinstalling Vista, it could be an attached hardware device
thats preventing from booting up, remove any unnecessary external/usb based
devices and try booting again.

I did reinstall it... still no dice... in fact, this one will not even let me
safe-mode it! I am going to try the 32-bit now.

The same thing happened to me, but when I just let the computerset there with
only the black screen & mouse arrow showing for about 10 minutes, it suddenly
started up. From then on it starts very fast.

It seems I can only run Vista using the standard VGA driver. I tried
installing the ATI one, but that one will not install until I figure out how
to connect to the internet. I can see the network, but there are DNS
complaints that forbid me from connecting.
