Boot-up Help!

Posted: 07-10-2006, 04:50 PM
Hi,

On one of my laptops, where I have 2 HDDs, I installed Vista on one of them.
However, due to finishing testing on a laptop I format the HDD from the Disk
Management on the other (XP) HDD, yet I still get the boot-up option screen
when I power up.

Help? Any ideas lol?

Use either VistaBootPro or EasyBCD to remove the entry from the boot options
screen. Once the BOS is down to one entry it will no longer appear.

Ok, I have a mate with kind of the same problem.... however! he has Win XP
Home on one HDD and Win XP Home on another HDD!!! so on the boot options he
has Windows XP Home edition AND Windows XP Home Edition.

One version works ok, the other doesn't work (gets a system error something
about HAL.DLL).

I suggested, getting on backing up ALL data etc... and format both HDDs and
install a fresh lol, but he would still get the options at the beginning
right?

help!

The way it should work is he will see Home and Pro on one option screen
before installing Vista and after installing Vista he should see Old Version
of Windows and Windows (Vista). Choosing Old Version of Windows should
bring up a second screen offering Home and Pro.

no no no lol. (sorry)

ok story,
He already has installed Vista, and then formatted it from the XP HDD, but
then had the two boot options still (old version of windows and Windows
Vista) however, he decided to change the boot.ini file :-S and now he gets
an error saying HAL.DLL is corrupt or missing, when trying to access the win
XP HDD, so now he cannot get onto either!!! SO, he decided to install XP
again over the Vista HDD (so all his docs were on the XP HDD still), and now
he has 2 options... Windows xp Home and Windows xp Home (one works ok, one
doesn't)!!

So basically the question is, he can work on the HDD with XP on that works
ok, however how does he get rid of the other option on the boot-up, (knowing
altering the boot.ini is a bit of a dilemma cos BOTH options are the same!
yet one version works one doesn't)
