Bootmanager does not start Vista

Posted: 01-22-2009, 11:06 PM
On my PC I have XP and Vista as a dual boot. In Vista bootmanager, XP
is set as primary. I daily work on XP, but for some months I did not
use Vista. Today after I selected Vista to boot, nothing was happening
at all, black screen and no loading activities.

With VistBootPro on XP, I verified that the expected entries in BCD
are still there.
Then I booted from DVD, selectes Repair Computer, then “Diagnose Boot
problems”, but it returned that no problems could be detected. Now, I
am uncertain if I should apply Bootrec /FixMBR or /Fixboot or what to
do else. I don’t want to unintendedly disable the option to boot XP.

Today I executed bootrec /FixMbr, but it did not help.

Then I executed bootrec /FixBoot, but it returned: "This volume does
not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all
required file system drivers ..."

bootrec /ScanOs returned: "total identified windows installations: 0"
Though before, after selecting "Repair your Computer", the System
Recovery Options had said that there was Windows Vista Ultimate on
partition H (as supposed to be).

Then I made a system restore to a recent restore point. It ran
successfully and thereby proved the existence of a Vista installation.
But as expected, it did not overcome the boot problem, which seems to
be caused somehow by partitioning and file system.

Any ideas what elso to try?

Use my little HWBOOT bootmanager, the only thing what is inportant
is, each partition has to have it's own bootfiles, and it works
only with the first drive.

Met vriendelijke groeten, Jawade.
