Default BOOTPREP Permission Denied Error

I'm having weird problems with bootprep and was hoping that somebody could
tell me what is going on...

I have a CompactFlash that I've fdisk-ed, formatted, etc. - everything seems
fine (double checked), but when I try to run bootprep I get a "Drive.Open
error - permission denied". I've done this a hundred times before and never
had this problem - what could be causing this?

Thanks,
JC

JC, I've never seen that one. Sorry.

Magnus, are you formatting with NTFS? If you're formatting with FAT I don't
see how you can get away w/o BOOTPREP.

Ok - that makes much more sense. BOOTPREP is only needed with FAT
partitions. BOOTPREP replaces the boot sector with a NT style boot sector.
FAT includes a dos style boot sector, whereas NTFS already includes a NT
style boot sector.

Thanks for all the info. I'm certain that there is no "virus protection"
enabled in the BIOS.

Will try different a brand of CompactFlash and will also try the NTFS
route - will post my results here.
