bought video card in hardware compatibility list but does not support aero?!

Wow. That's a very old video card and very pre-Aero. The current nVidia
series are in the 9000's. The minimum cards that will reliably support Aero
are the 6000 series for nVidia, but even those may have some performance
issues. I personally would recommend nothing lower than the 7000 series.

run your windows experience index with the new card.
it will show you which component is holding your computer back. and i
it meets the minimum requirements to run aero. you need a base score o
3 for aero

here is the system requirements for the graphics card to run aero


- Supports a Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) drive
- Has a DirectX 9-class graphics processor unit (GPU) that support
Pixel Shader 2.
- Supports 32 bits per pixe
- Passes the Windows Aero acceptance test in the Windows Driver Ki

I'm not sure what you mean by "base score", but if it's the score that
appears in Welcome Center as the Windows Experience Index (WEI) (the lowest
score of the 5), you're not correct. I'm typing this on an older laptop with
a WEI of 2.0, and Aero is working just fine.

I think you may be only looking at the graphic card requirements.
The following link contains all of the Vista Aero requirements including
ones such as the requirement for 1GB of Ram memory.

I had a similar problem with a geforce 6200.
Went to the help menu and did the Aero troubleshooting
to enable all the proper check boxes in several different screens
to make it work.

Another thing is to make sure you go thru the process to update the
windows experience index. Seems that you can't turn on Aero if the
old experience index isn't big enough. Do this first.
